About Motia

Motia is a company built to encourage sustainability, fight fast fashion, and promote the coming together of the South Asian community within the North American market.

Founded by two sisters (Izza and Zara), their love for sharing clothes, and building strong community connections. We aim to share the intricate beadwork, stunning embroideries, and extraordinary craftsmanship of South Asian garments at affordable rates. Motia offers garments that are a labour of love, an ode to culture and tradition in a non-judgemental, inclusive, and safe space that fosters the feeling of belonging.

Stepping away from fast fashion, we at Motia strive to create a platform that encourages sustainability, sharing, rewearing, and culture while highlighting the beauty of South Asian garments by promoting sharing, reusing, and re-wearing.

Our Story

Sharing clothes has been a long-standing tradition in our founders' (Izza & Zara's) family. With limited options and soaring prices of designer South Asian garments in North America, Izza and Zara wanted to build a space that encourages re-wearing and sharing while creating a sense of community through fashion. Through Motia, we have created for you, your desi closet where you will always find something to wear!

Motia, is an homage to our late grandmother (Dadi). Through Motia, we hope to channel her strength, love for knowledge, and spirit of togetherness. Motia (موتیا) is the Urdu word for the Jasmine flower, our Dadi’s favorite flower. Our brand name honors the memory of our grandmother as we hope to carry a piece of her with us through our adventure.
